The Flood

Every time you see a rainbow in the sky, you can remember God’s promise not to destroy the earth by flood again. The Flood was a tragic event for every person except 8 people. As we have read the story in Genesis 6-9 this week, we have read of great death and destruction. God was grieved by what he did. At the end of the story, God promises never to do this again. God’s mercy and love upon humanity are shown to us, and we can remember his mercy and love every time we see a rainbow.

What is another reminder of God’s love and mercy that you see daily? A cross or crosses that you have on the wall may come to mind. As long as the cross doesn’t become just another decoration but helps you remember the sacrifice Jesus made for you, I think this is great. The cross is a reminder that Jesus loved you so much, he was willing to die on a cross. But the good news is that the cross we usually hang is empty because Jesus did not stay dead. He rose from the dead. Every time we see an empty cross, we can be reminded of that truth and the promise that his death and resurrection gave us eternal life. Rainbows and crosses. Two symbols that remind us of God’s love and mercy. Think about the characteristics the next time you see these symbols.
