The Tower Of Babel

God scattered peoples and languages at the Tower of Babel. God brought the people together again on the Day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit has the power to unite humanity, no matter the language we speak. When you read the story of Pentecost closely, you recognize that the power of the Holy Spirit is about listening as much as it is about speaking. The people heard the gathered disciples speaking in their languages. Language is about what people hear and what they say. The people in Babel could no longer understand one another. Through the Holy Spirit, God helped those gathered in Jerusalem to hear one another once again.

As Christians, guided by the Holy Spirit, we are to share the gospel with people of all nations, tribes, and languages. The Holy Spirit also works in the lives of those who listen so that they can understand the message. The Holy Spirit is the mediator between our mouths and others’ ears. This should come as a great relief for you. The gospel’s impact does not rely on you perfecting your elevator speech. The gospel’s impact simply relies on your obedience to do your part. The Holy Spirit takes your obedience and helps the one listening to understand. May we be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak the things of God, so that others can hear the things of God.
