The Flood
This coming Sunday, we will begin our Missions Ingathering focus for the month. We will be collecting money for the three major missions offerings of the year during September, as well as for our local helping ministry, which provides rent and bill assistance to our community. Please be in prayer for how you will financially support local, state, national, and international missions this month.
To kick off Missions Ingathering month, we will have special guests at church on Sunday. Missionaries Jacob and Carol Lee will join us to share about their work in Africa. On Sunday, we will also take a special love offering for them.
I share all of this to say that I will not be preaching the story of Noah and the Flood on Sunday. However, we will still read through this story this week as we continue through the first part of Genesis. Genesis 6:1-8 is the most confusing passage of the Bible. In my opinion, the point of this passage is to show how depraved the world was as a contrast to the righteousness of Noah. Despite being in a world that had become so corrupt, Noah was able to remain righteous.
Noah is an example for all of us. As we look at a world that is far from God, we can see that Noah was able to remain righteous despite his surroundings. This gives us hope that we can do the same. This gives us the motivation to remain steadfast and work toward finding favor in the eyes of God. The world was so corrupt that God decided to start over. But even in the depravity, there was one man who remained righteous. In a world that is dark, be a light like Noah.
