The Tower Of Babel

The Tower of Babel is a straightforward story. People were able to build a tower because they could understand one another; this level of ingenuity was not what God wanted for humanity. Therefore, God made them speak different languages and scatter them across the earth. The story explains why people speak different languages around the world, and it explains how Noah’s family led to people living across the world.

The number of languages spoken around the world is astounding. There are 7,164 languages spoken by the 8 billion people who live on the earth. Of those 7000+ languages, only 756 have the full Bible translated, with another 1726 having only the New Testament. About 7.3 billion people have some portion of Scripture translated into their primary language. According to the Wycliffe Global Alliance, this leaves about 700 million people in the world without Scripture in their primary language. Would you take the time today to pray for groups, such as Wycliffe, who are working to translate the Bible into all the languages of the world? Would you pray for God to use His people to bring the gospel to every person scattered across the face of the earth?
