God Creates Everything

Today, we begin our new series called “In the Beginning…” Over the next 6 weeks, we will be looking at the stories that make up Genesis 1-11. As we always do, we will be studying these passages of Scripture to help us understand life and how to have a better relationship with God. If you come to these devotions hoping for scientific answers about creation, you will be very disappointed. The Bible wasn’t written to be a science textbook; the Bible was written to tell us about the God who created all, including you and me. The Bible is the story of God’s love for all things.

What we read in the first two verses of the Bible is that God already exists before the creation of the heavens and the earth. We read of the emptiness and darkness that existed across the waters, which would eventually become the universe we are amazed by today. And what we will see over the course of this week is that when God acts upon the darkness and emptiness, light enters the world and fills the void.

This is what God will do for you in your life as well. When you feel dark and empty, it is God who will come in and brighten your life and fill you with hope, joy, love, etc. The same Spirit of God that was hovering over those dark, formless waters will fill you up and give you strength for today. God has been taking emptiness and filling it since the beginning. He will fill you up as well.
