What Do I Live By?

A Question Of Values

One of our core values as a church is Bible Study. For the value of Bible Study, we emphasize these verses from Deuteronomy 6:4-9. These six verses remind us that our values must be taught by parents to their children. The love of God must be taught and shown in the home. The teaching of values is something that must be a continual work. We teach our kids at home and while away. We prompt ourselves to remember our values with regular reminders that might be in our home, car, or on our bodies. You can’t just read a list of values and expect that to be your new way of life. If you want to live by a certain set of values, you must consider them day and night.

If we are committed to loving the Lord with everything we’ve got, then we are committed to having His value system on our minds all the time. We are commanded to “set your minds on things that are above, not on the things that are on earth” (Col. 3:2). Our minds should always be on the things of God. The things of God are what we should live by and what we should be teaching our children.
