Why Should I Go On?
A Question Of Hope
“Greater is He…” Do you believe that statement from 1 John 4:4? I assume you are nodding your head in the affirmative. In our minds, we know that God is greater than Satan, the ruler of this world (John 12:31). And we know that God is above all things (more on that in tomorrow’s reading). But do we live in a way that shows we believe that? Or do we live scared, anxious lives?
Throughout the 1980s, there was a fear that Satan was influencing children through everything, including rock music and the Care Bears. There was a Satanic Panic that all these Satanists were out to get your kids and turn them into devil worshippers or use them for child sacrifices. Even today, there is fear that if you turn on the wrong TV show or if you let your kids read the wrong books, you’ll allow demons into your home. Did we forget who our hope is in and who our protector is? “…Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.” We do not need to fear evil. In fact, we can laugh at evil because God is on our side! We can make fun of the devil’s schemes because we know he loses. When we do not fear the devil’s work, then his influence becomes less. We have hope for the future because we know that God is greater than Satan.
