Journey Through Philippians

As we reflect on this week's Scripture readings, let us be mindful that God has a plan for our lives here on earth. Press forward in the steps that He has prepared for us to walk in. Believe He is who He says He is, knowing that we can accomplish anything He asks of us. Then live a life that reflects the life of Jesus to bring glory and honor to Him.

Journey Through Philippians

I have found that true contentment can only be found in our relationship with Jesus. It has taken me many years to realize this one truth. I have spent much money and time trying to fulfill the emptiness in my life with things. It has only been in the last ten years that I have truly understood that the fulfillment I was looking for could only come from my relationship with my Savior.

What does God want you to do? It’s quite simple. We must step out in faith and do the will of God, trusting Him for the strength we will need. Every need we have in life’s journey is at our disposal. We have the word, we can pray, and we can be discipled by other believers. There is one power source that we can always plug into at any time for guidance, comfort, and strength. That source is the Holy Spirit. God is on our side. The Scripture is true when it says, “we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.” We just must trust in it, believe in it, and then live it.

Journey Through Philippians

Have you ever heard the song “this world is not my home I'm just a passin’ through?” Many believers get fixated on their earthly home and lose the perspective that this is not our forever home; our citizenship is in heaven with Jesus. Citizens of a Roman colony were expected to promote the interest of Rome and maintain the dignity of the city. In the same way, citizens of heaven ought to promote heaven's interest on earth and lead lives worthy of heavenly citizenship. Too many Christians have failed to transfer their citizenship to heaven. They still seek earthly pleasures and treasures instead of heavenly ones. Paul told the Philippians to remember that they were citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.

Have you transferred your citizenship? How are you promoting heaven's interest? We have so much to look forward to. The phrase “weak and mortal bodies” does not imply any negative attitude toward the human body. What this means is that the bodies we receive when we are raised from the dead will be glorious, like Christ’s resurrected body. Paul promises this great privilege for every citizen of heaven. Our human minds cannot comprehend what God has for us in our heavenly home.

On the other hand, I've heard it said before that we cannot be so heavenly minded that we're no earthly good. We still have work to do here on earth to lead people to Jesus and to make disciples. Heaven is our promise. Our hope and prayer should be when we see our Savior face-to-face that he can say to us, “well done my good and faithful servant.” That's it, that's the mark, and the goal to live a life that is pleasing to our Lord and savior Jesus.
