I must have been 4 years old or thereabouts. It was the middle of the night, I was scared, and I needed my mom. The problem was that I was so scared that I would not leave my room to go and get her. At the same time, I didn’t want to yell to her, waking up everyone in the house. So, I whispered, “Mommy. “Mommmmmmyyyyyyyyyyy.” And just a minute later, my mom came to see what was wrong. Just by whispering my mom’s name, my mom came to my aid.

God’s attention is even easier to get. From his Temple, he hears the cries of our hearts, and he listens to us. His ears are attentive to our voice. When we are scared and in desperate need, we can call upon the Lord and be saved. The heading at the beginning of Psalm 18 explains that David wrote this psalm one of the times after God rescued him from Saul. With the army of Israel against him, David felt in danger. However, with God on his side, David stood victorious and was saved from his enemies.

When we cry out to God, He hears us and will answer. Our cry will go into his ears, and he will work on our behalf. When God is for us, nothing can be against us. Even with death pulling us down, God can pull us back up and save us from destruction.
