Throughout this week of devotions, we have reinforced the importance of prayer. Prayer is you talking and listening to God. At the same time, that means that prayer is God talking and listening to you. Job 22:27 emphasizes what we already know about the character and actions of God. When we talk, God listens. We can know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that God is listening when we cry out to him. Whether we are crying out in despair or in worship, God is listening to the cries of our hearts.

What about the other way around? Prayer is a two-way street. God is listening when we speak, but are you listening when God speaks? Are you taking the time in your prayer life to wait in the silence and listen to God? While the presence of God can be seen in scenes of grandeur, such as we see at Pentecost in Acts 2, we also know that God shows us in the stillness of the wind, as we see in 1 Kings 19:11-13. If we are not taking the time to be still and listen to God, we will not hear God when he speaks. God listens to us when we cry out to him; we must take the time to listen to him as well.
