Life would have been much easier for Jonah if he had done what he did in Jonah 3:3 at the beginning of the story. God comes to Jonah a second time to tell Jonah the same thing he said the first time. This time, Jonah immediately listens and goes to Nineveh. How much easier life will be when we listen to God the first time!
On the other hand, God can use your disobedience for his glory, as we mentioned a couple of weeks ago. When Jonah ran away, those sailors were able to learn about the power of God. When Jonah ran away, Jonah learned that you cannot run from God, and even when you have given up, God still loves you so much that he will save you from death. Romans 8:28 rings true in the life of Jonah: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
I pray that you have learned from your past mistakes. I pray that you are a better disciple of Jesus because you have seen how he has rescued you from your past. And I pray that you do not repeat your past mistakes. I hope that when God gives you a second chance to do His will, you take it and go with God.
