Last week, we spent most of the week telling the story of Jonah 1. This week, we only read Jonah 2 today. Instead of breaking up this wonderful prayer that Jonah prays while in the belly of the fish, we will look at it as a whole and then move to other prayers from the Bible this week.

The first thing that I notice from Jonah’s prayer is remorse. Jonah is remorseful and feels rather foolish for thinking he could run away from God. And now, from the belly of a fish, Jonah knows that God is everywhere, and at any time, he can cry out for help. Even when we are wasting away and feel as if we are on death’s doorstep, God is near and always ready to listen.

“I called out of my distress…and he answered me.” Allow that to be a statement that washes over you and gives you peace. When we are in distress, even distress that is our own making, God is still listening, and God will be with you. Don’t feel like you are alone. God is with you, even when you are in the belly of a fish.
