The Lord listens to our prayers! The Lord gives us second chances! Further proof of this truth is seen in the life of King Hezekiah. Hezekiah faced an illness that was supposed to be fatal. Hezekiah prayed for more time, and God granted his request. The prayer of praise that we read in Isaiah 38:9-20 is Hezekiah’s response to receiving the news about his health from Isaiah.

Verse 17 is what I want us to focus on today. The message of God’s salvation is on full display in these words. Hezekiah knew that his future was death, but God saved him. Hezekiah’s sins were going to send him to Sheol, the realm of the dead, but God took those sins and threw them away. God threw them behind his back, so neither God nor Hezekiah could see them or think about them again.

What a wonderful visual for us to think about. God has provided us salvation and throws away our sins. God does not hold on to our mistakes so he can pull them out to blackmail us later. God tosses our sin far, far away. Thank you, God, for listening to our prayers! Thank you, God, for giving us second chances!
